Editors Opinion

  • The New Balance 1080v4 is a very comfortable, lightweight, neutral shoe.  It offers flexibility, and an 8mm heel to toe drop, providing a larger range of motion.  However, the heel unit is fairly wide, and for people with slim ankles might cause issues with slipping.
  • 8.5/10
  • RRP £105

The New Balance 1080v4 builds on the previous version in offering a light, flexible, neutral shoe, with soft yet responsive cushioning.  This version feels slightly softer, and more flexible, making it a great shoe for transitioning to forefoot running, or for lighter neutral runners.

Key Technologies:

  • Absorb midsole foam offers cushioning and durability
  • N2 in the heel and forefoot offers responsive cushioning in key areas
  • Fantom Fit upper gives an almost seamless feel, and uses very few stitches for added comfort
  • ASYM Counter in the heel provides stability at the ankle

The New Balance 1080v4 is an excellent neutral shoe for the runner looking for a lightweight, fast and flexible shoe. I would be a little concerned if I was a heavier runner, or one who is just starting, as it isn't the most heavily cushioned shoe, however if you're lighter on you feet, or are looking to transition to forefoot, this is an excellent choice.  We give it an 8.5 out of 10
